The assessment of TMJ internal derangement was based on the sagittal plane magnetic resonance images (MRI). The steepness of articular eminence was determined by computerized axiography. The results of the study could not identify any correlation between steepness of articular eminence and progressive internal derangement of the temporomandibular joint. These data suggest that any change of articular eminence steepness induced by remodelling or degenerative changes secondary to ID is not essential.

بررسی ارتباط شیب برجستگی مفصلی با حرکات مجموعه کندیل و دیسک در تصاویر MRI مبتلایان به اختلالات داخلی مفصل گیجگاهی فکی

Background and Aims: Internal derangement of the Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the most common form of Temporomandibular disorders, which represents an abnormal internal strucural and functional change of the disk, as well as an abnormal relationship of the disk to the condyle, glenoid fossa and articular eminence when the teeth are in the closed- mouth position. The aim of this study was to...

Evaluation of Articular Eminence Morphology and Inclination in TMJ Internal Derangement Patients with MRI Evaluación de la Morfología e Inclinación de la Eminencia Articular en Pacientes con Trastorno Interno de ATM con MRI

Articular eminence morphology and inclination are reported to be two predisposing factors for the internal derangement (ID). The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between the inclination and morphology of the articular eminence and ID. The study included 70 temporomandibular joints with ID in 35 patients: 51 joints had disc displacements with reduction (DDWR) and 19 joint...

3D Morphology Analysis of TMJ Articular Eminence in Magnetic Resonance Imaging

PURPOSE The objective of this study was to evaluate the computational reconstruction of the articular eminence of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and semiautomatic volumetric segmentation techniques for morphological classification of the TMJ structure. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 36 MRI scans of TMJ individuals were selected and formatted by u...

بررسی ارتباط موقعیت دیسک با مورفولوژی برجستگی مفصلیTMJ در بیماران مبتلا به TMD با استفاده از MRI

Background and Aims: Because of high prevalence of TMJ dysfunctions , increased promotion of diagnostic and treatment methods is necessary. In many cases, in addition to disc position, morphology of other joint components such as articular eminence can be changed and therefore the probable correlation between disc position and morphology of hard tissue components can be used for prediction of i...

Internal Derangement of Temporomandibular Joint - A Review

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is a complex, sensitive, and highly mobile joint. Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are a class of degenerative musculoskeletal conditions associated with morphologic and functional deformities that affect up to 25% of the population. The most frequent structural (as opposed to muscular) cause of TMD are Internal derangement , which involves progressive slipping a ...
